Money Laundering Reporting Officer (MLRO)
About ESTO
Founded in 2017, we are a fast-growing fintech company on a mission to make shopping and financial decisions effortless. By combining smart technology with customer-first thinking, we enable people to pay flexibly and businesses to grow faster.
As a team, we value ambition, ownership, and constant improvement. We move fast, think big, and build solutions that make a real impact on everyday lives.
About the role:
ESTO is scaling AML/CFT compliance across the Baltics, and we're looking for a Group MLRO to own it end-to-end — from governance and risk assessment to regulator relationships and team-wide training.
You'll set the standard for how ESTO manages financial crime risk across Estonia, Latvia and Lithuania: building the group's AML/CFT and sanctions framework, driving transaction monitoring and CDD/EDD standards, and acting as the direct link between the business, the Management Boards and the FIUs.
This is a build-it-yourself role: you'll have real authority, direct access to leadership, and the mandate to shape processes from the ground up rather than maintain someone else's system.
What You’ll Do:
Own group-wide AML/CFT and sanctions governance, policies and controls.
Maintain group ML/TF risk assessments across countries, products, channels and customers.
Set group CDD/EDD standards - onboarding, beneficial ownership, source of funds, periodic review.
Design and oversee the group transaction monitoring framework.
Own suspicious activity escalation and FIU reporting policy.
Oversee sanctions screening, PEP and adverse media controls.
Report internally to the Group CEO/Management Boards and externally to EE/LV/LT supervisors and FIUs.
Act as an independent AML/CFT control function with direct escalation authority to leadership and supervisors.
Coordinate audits and supervisory inspections; monitor ongoing AML/CFT compliance.
Track regulatory change - especially AMLR/AMLD6 (July 2027) - and drive implementation.
Build and own the group-wide AML/CFT training programme, including delivery, tracking and management reporting.
What We Expect:
Master's degree in law, finance, economics, business administration or equivalent.
5+ years in AML/CFT or financial crime compliance at a supervised financial institution or advisory practice.
Hands-on experience across risk assessment, CDD/EDD, transaction monitoring, sanctions/PEP screening and FIU reporting.
Direct experience with supervisory engagement - inspections, information requests, audits, remediation.
Solid command of national and EU AML/CFT frameworks and guidelines.
Meets fit-and-proper requirements for a senior AML/CFT function; MLRO/FIU contact person experience in a Baltic jurisdiction strongly preferred.
Comfortable using GenAI tools (Claude, ChatGPT, etc.) to boost compliance work quality and efficiency.
Fluent in Estonian and English.
Consumer/SME lending or tech-driven financial services background is a plus.
Strong ownership mindset - able to build and implement processes from scratch and see them through.
Confident communicator who can challenge, influence and drive change across all levels.
